Okay, maybe it's because I was seriously jonesing for salmon, and maybe it's because I've sat through meetings where the new salmon dish has been discussed, but I do have to say that I just had the best lunch ever.
Lunch today was at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando. (Yes, I'm going to plug my company's menu for the duration of the post. Please feel free to skip it if you really don't care to read about my lunch.) It's not an easy place to go when you live here because it's right by Universal Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure, and if you're not going to the parks, there's really no reason to pony up $11 for parking.
Anyway, location and parking aside, lunch was very very good. I had the new salmon entree (which runs about $18) with a side Caesar salad, and both were wonderful. The Parmesan on the salad alone was delicious. Apparently, it's shaved from a big wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano and left in beautifully large chunks. It was tasty enough for me to contemplate purchasing a wheel myself and eating it in a single sitting (but it would be best if I didn't).
The salmon is a wild Alaskan sock-eye salmon, and quite flavorful. Even without the herb butter, it was fantastically seasoned, but the herb butter and lemon juice made it out of this world. I very nearly scraped the plate clean, it was so good. The sides are cheddar smashed potatoes and steamed vegetables (today it was broccoli), both of which I eagerly devoured, as well. Delicious!
So, the next time you're in the mood for salmon (or a really good burger), might I suggest your local Hard Rock Cafe? Sure, the music might be a little loud and a lot of the servers have tattoos and piercings and such, but the food is awesome!
And where else can you entertain yourself by looking at the world's largest rock & roll memorabilia collection?
When I came back from a meeting this morning, there was a card signed by our CEO congratulating me on the occasion of my first anniversary with the company. It was pretty cool.
The funny thing about the card, though, is that the sentiment within it ("Congratulations and salutations - Green Day") - which was specifically attributed to Green Day in the card - comes from the song "Jackass" which, as the name implies, really isn't that nice of a song. No one would know this, of course, unless they know their Green Day. (The next line of the song, incidentally, is "You're a figment of your own imagination.") And, of course, Green Day is the company's band du jour, as sales of their T-shirts are exceeding expectations and there still hasn't been a huge PR blitz on it.
But anyway, it's been a whole year since I found my place in this Universe. In honor of the occasion (besides getting the card), the designers downstairs put up a little display of Sex Pistols memorabilia not far from my office. (Okay, so they were switching out the display, anyway. But it's not every day you can request something of Johnny Rotten's to go up by the elevators and actually have someone listen to you!)
I love my job. And I love where I work!
Now, there's only 9 more years until I get that Rolex...
I am so excited about this product. I had to keep my mouth shut about it for a very long time, so it was probably a good thing I was on maternity leave when I was. No, there weren't meetings at the building with Billie Joe (those were all conducted over the phone, and no, I didn't participate in them), but I did get to see the finished product the day I came back to work.
Oh, I'm so excited. Have I mentioned that I love Green Day? Not only do they remind me of my late adolescent years and beyond, but they're just such a cool band.
So, these shirts are available now online and will be at Hard Rock Cafes in the United States in a week, then worldwide before the end of the month. (I've been listening to the allocators work out logistics on getting these shirts to cafes since I've been back at work - this is no small feat!) Some locations (San Francisco, for example) will have the shirts this week. The proceeds go to Amnesty International, specifically to end the fighting in Darfur.
I'm just excited about the shirt because it's so cool-looking. Now, if only the product developers would just let me have the original artwork that Billie Joe sent us...
I passed by the break room and saw a huge group of people gathered around the big plasma:
Anna Nicole Smith found dead at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL
She's been in the news a lot lately, first with her son dying and then this whole thing with Trim Spa... I feel bad for her little girl more than anything.
Show us something brand new.
This is the new Barbie, arriving soon at Hard Rock Cafes worldwide and already available on the Hard Rock Cafe's online store. I think this doll totally rocks - and it's a total limited edition (I think there's only 3500 or so of these).
For Barbie fans out there, she'll also be available at Target, Wal-Mart and other locations that sell fine Mattel products, but that Barbie will have blonde hair and not be nearly as cool. You'd also need to wait until January to pick her up.
Where to begin? Given my loquacious nature, I think blogging should be second nature... and maybe it will get that way once I start doing this some more. But I find first entries are always difficult to compose (even in a diary), though they shouldn't be.
So, I'm making this blog all about me... sort of. It's about me, the people I love, the things I love, and the things that affect me. It may well become a chronicle of my daily existence - who knows? (I can't really imagine anyone actually wanting to read my ramblings, but who am I to judge?)
I spoke to my parents today and asked about the weather back home in the beautiful San Fernando Valley. (Yes, I'm a Valley Girl. Totally.) Mom said that the temperature in Woodland Hills last week reached 119 degrees. Here in Orlando, it's a lovely 94 degrees with 100% humidity - literally. I'm listening to the rain beat down on our roof and am so very thankful that I made it home before the deluge of the day. Not that I feel the heat during the day, mind you. I'm lucky enough to work indoors, and I'm careful not to complain too much about sitting directly under the vent that keeps our office at 70 degrees. The plus side is that I'm halfway home before I've thawed enough in my car to turn on the AC.
