[this is good]
My labor with the first child was very long-- 26 hours, to be exact-- followed by 2 1/2 hours of pushing (and if you knew him, you'd understand why. He's always needed a good swift boot to the backside to "jump start" him into accomplishing any task).
The second time around, I had maybe 6 hours of labor (and almost went the entire time without pain meds), followed by two pushes (and if you knew that child you would understand. He's always in a hurry and has always had an agenda). And both times, what I remember the most, is thinking to myself, "These are the last few hours of it being just me and him-- then I have to share him with everyone else". So bittersweet, I guess... You want the immediate pain over, but you don't want that part of your life with them to end.
